Stop Using GitHub Job Repos and LinkedIn for SWE Jobs

Austin just accepted a software engineering offer worth over $350,000, including a $20,000 sign-on bonus, and someone asked which job board he uses. Part one is what he does not do.

He does not use the GitHub repositories that list hundreds of jobs. People find these repos and apply to everything, yet everyone he talks to who relies on them struggles to find good jobs. He also uses LinkedIn sparingly: it is a good platform and he has gotten jobs from it, but it is not where he finds most software engineering roles.

The number one secret is held for part two. The video is illustrated as a chalkboard sketch between his recorded commentary.

0:00So I just accepted a job offer where I'd make over $350,000.

0:05And that includes an outstanding $20,000 sign-on bonus.

0:10And I'm going to tell you exactly how I go about finding software engineering jobs.

0:15So if you're a CS student or if you're already in the industry and you don't know how to find these high-paying, remote-friendly software engineering jobs, stop and save this video.

0:29I'm gonna start with what I personally don't do because I see people do this all the time.

0:35I'm not saying it won't work.

0:38I'm just saying what I don't do.

0:42So number one, I don't use those github repos that have the jobs.

0:47I see people find these great repos with all these jobs on it and they just apply.

0:52But for some reason, everyone I talk to that uses these repos, they can't find any good jobs.

0:59I never liked them, I never used them, and I never cared about them.

1:03Number two, I tend to use LinkedIn pretty sparingly.

1:08I mean, I know LinkedIn is great.

1:10I've had gotten jobs from LinkedIn, but I don't use LinkedIn all that much.

1:17At least when it comes to finding software engineering jobs.

1:21And the number one secret to finding a software engineering job isn't available in this video.

1:29I'm going to make you wait.

1:31If this video gets a hundred likes then I'll release my part two.
