No-Code Algorithmic Trading: Complex Rules, Zero Python

Austin Starks explains how he expresses complex trading rules in NexusTrade without writing a strategy in Python. His example combines market-cap ranking, RSI below 30, increasing annual free cash flow, and insider purchases. He also describes testing 30 strategy variations and inspecting events to understand and fix failures.

The chalkboard diagrams illustrate the rules and testing workflow; they are not completed backtest results or a performance claim. The argument concerns supported trading decisions. Unusual requirements can use custom code and Run Compute to produce a signal that feeds the strategy.

0:00You can write a thousand lines in Python and it still won't be nearly as good as my no-code trading platform.

0:07There's this weird misconception that in order to be an algorithmic trader or a quantitative finance expert, you have to write your trading strategies in code and this is just so weird.

0:18Because we already know software engineers aren't sitting down and writing code anymore.

0:23So why is it so crazy to think that quantitative finance experts are doing the same?

0:28They're not writing code.

0:29They can just express their trading logic.

0:32If I want to build a strategy that buys the top 10 stocks by market cap whose RSI is under 30 and only those with a free cash flow that increases every single year and that a popular insider has bought shares in, I can do that.

0:46I can do all of that without writing a single line of code.

0:49But not only that, I can test 30 different variations of that strategy simultaneously.

0:54I can look at how the best ones do and where they failed.

0:58I can inspect the events and then I can fix the issue at the core.

1:02Can your code-based platform do that?

1:04I don't think it can.

1:06The only people that say you have to write code are those TikTok gurus who spent years creating a code-based platform or an agentic AI IDE for coding and they're convinced themselves that you have to write code.

1:19No!

1:19You don't have to write a single line of code to be a quantitative finance expert, period.
