Portfolio Notepads
Attach markdown research notes to a portfolio, embed live charts, version them, and share them with the book.
Portfolio Notepads
A portfolio notepad is a markdown note attached to one of your books. Use it for the thesis, the risk checklist, and the charts that belong with that reasoning — not as a second strategy editor.
Open a deployed portfolio, then use the Notepads panel on the dashboard. The first note is titled Strategy Notes unless you rename it.
Tip: Keep the why in the notepad and the rules in the strategy. The note survives edits to conditions and allocations.
Write and save
- Open your portfolio dashboard and select a book.
- Create a notepad or open an existing one.
- Write in Edit, then switch to Preview to see rendered markdown and live charts.
- The editor autosaves. A stale save (someone else wrote first) returns a conflict — reload and try again.
| You can use |
You cannot use |
| Headings, lists, links, tables |
Raw HTML, iframes, or script tags |
Fenced chart blocks for live charts |
A portfolioId inside a chart (a note is always this book) |
| Images from NexusTrade CDN hosts |
Images from arbitrary third-party hosts |
Each notepad stores a current version. Every save, archive, and revert writes an immutable snapshot. Open Notepad history to diff two versions or restore an older one — restore creates a new current version rather than rewriting the past.
Live charts
Charts are typed JSON inside a chart fence. They stay live — preview and the shared page fetch current history. A note may render up to 8 live charts. Extra fences show as omitted.
Click Insert chart in the editor, or paste the fence yourself.
Backtest equity curve
Prefer this. A single run uses backtestId. Overlay up to four runs on one graph with backtestIds — that still counts as one chart toward the cap.
{"kind":"backtest","backtestId":"<24-char hex id>","range":"ALL"}
{"kind":"backtest","backtestIds":["<id1>","<id2>"],"range":"ALL"}
| Rule |
Detail |
| Default range |
ALL |
| Overlay scale |
Each line is indexed to 100 at the first date both runs have a point |
| Shared pages |
Backtest charts render for anyone who can see the published notes. The shared page loads only the runs a published note embeds, and only their equity curves |
| Extra JSON keys |
Dropped. Invalid JSON becomes an error card, not a crash |
Ticker and this book
{"kind":"asset","symbol":"NVDA","range":"1Y"}
{"kind":"asset","symbol":"BTC-USD","assetType":"crypto","range":"1Y"}
{"kind":"portfolio","range":"1Y"}
kind: "portfolio" is always this book. Do not pass a portfolio id.
Stock tickers are AAPL-style. Crypto from search may be hyphenated (BTC-USD).
Static images still work as normal markdown, but only from NexusTrade HTTPS CDN hosts.
Share a notepad
Sharing is a portfolio setting, not a per-note toggle.
- Open Settings → Share Portfolio.
- Turn on Share portfolio notepads.
- Everyone who can see the shared book then sees every active notepad.
Archived notes stay hidden. Hiding strategy details does not hide notepads — write accordingly.
Backtest embeds stay private on shared pages. Ticker and book charts remain available to viewers.
Aurora and MCP
Aurora and the NexusTrade MCP can list, read, write, archive, diff, and revert notepads without an extra LLM call. Write tools require expected_version from the notepad's currentVersion.
